Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor pediatric patients in the post-anesthesia setting, ensuring safe recovery and timely interventions
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy per protocol, verifying doses and documenting carefully
• Provide focused pain management and comfort measures tailored to children and their families
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care
• Educate families on recovery expectations, discharge instructions, and safe home care practices
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, initiating emergency protocols when necessary
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and support quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid for practice in Missouri
• Experience or interest in Post-Anesthesia Care and pediatrics (PACU/Peds) preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and ACLS encouraged
• Comfort working with children and their families in a perioperative/post-anesthesia environment
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to complete orientation and any facility-specific training prior to independent practice

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical knowledge of post-anesthesia assessment and recovery processes
• Pediatric assessment skills, including age-appropriate pain assessment
• Proficiency with monitoring equipment and interpreting vital signs
• Medication administration and IV management with attention to pediatric dosing
• Teamwork and clear communication with surgical and anesthesia teams
• Documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
