Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care: monitor patients’ airway, breathing, circulation, and level of consciousness as they emerge from anesthesia
• Assess and manage postoperative pain, nausea, and vital signs, using evidence-based interventions
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe handoffs and timely patient throughput
• Perform focused nursing assessments and intervene promptly for changes in patient status
• Educate patients and families on immediate postoperative care and discharge readiness
• Document care accurately and timely in the electronic health record to support continuity and compliance
• Maintain a safe PACU environment by following infection control, medication safety, and facility protocols

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana (or compact RN authorization where applicable)
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS recommended or preferred
• Clinical PACU experience — demonstrated ability to care for post-anesthesia patients and manage common complications
• Comfortable with 12-hour shift workflow and able to work the assignment schedule
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and teamwork mindset
• Must meet facility-specific on-boarding and credentialing requirements (LCMC Health)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in postoperative assessment and monitoring
• Experience with airway management and basic ventilatory support
• Skilled in pain and nausea management protocols
• Familiarity with perioperative medications and medication safety
• Accurate electronic charting and handoff communication
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond to rapid changes in patient condition
