Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia nursing care to patients in the PACU, ensuring a safe and comfortable recovery
• Monitor vital signs, manage airways and pain control, and intervene promptly when changes occur
• Perform frequent patient assessments and handoffs to the inpatient team with clear, concise documentation
• Administer medications and IV therapies according to protocols and verify patient responses
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons and the perioperative team to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions to support a smooth transition

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact state licensure as applicable
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred or required depending on facility policy
• Previous PACU or post-anesthesia nursing experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated ability to assess and prioritize care for post-operative patients in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well in interdisciplinary teams

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in post-anesthesia assessment and recovery protocols
• Knowledge of pain management, airway management and hemodynamic monitoring
• Experience with IV medication administration and titration
• Comfortable with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to triage, prioritize and respond calmly in emergent situations
• Team-oriented mindset and strong patient advocacy skills
