Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgery
• Assess and monitor patients’ airway, vital signs, and pain levels consistently
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered, with careful documentation
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and nursing colleagues for safe handoffs
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate when needed
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations
• Maintain accurate, timely charting in the patient record and participate in unit quality initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (eligible to practice in Louisiana)
• Experience or competency in PACU/post-anesthesia care (clinical experience preferred)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (and ACLS recommended/encouraged)
• Strong assessment skills, clinical judgment, and effective communication
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to a dynamic perioperative environment

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia patient assessment and monitoring
• Airway management and oxygen therapy
• Pain management and safe opioid/analgesic administration
• IV medication administration and infusion management
• Rapid recognition of post-op complications and escalation protocols
• Teamwork, clear communication, and patient/family education
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation
