Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients to determine mental, physical, and spiritual needs and respond with compassionate care
• Develop, implement and evaluate individualized plans of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
• Use nursing clinical judgment to recognize, report and respond to changes in patient condition
• Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and their families to support recovery and education
• Maintain complete, accurate and timely medical record documentation
• Meet Core Measure responsibilities and ensure high standards of patient safety and quality
• Contribute to a healthy workplace by managing conflict professionally and promoting team communication
• Participate in continuing education to stay current with best practices in orthopedic nursing

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license (required)
• Current CPR/BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (required)
• Comfortable with orthopedic nursing principles and post-operative care
• Experience or exposure to ICU/Progressive Care, cardiac or recovery room settings is a plus
• Strong clinical judgment, patient education skills, and medical documentation proficiency
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and follow established protocols

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) or equivalent; active RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and individualized care planning
• Nursing clinical judgment to identify and escalate changes in condition
• Medical record documentation and charting best practices
• Patient and family education tailored to orthopedic recovery
• Multidisciplinary team collaboration for coordinated care
• Familiarity with post-operative orthopedic care and mobility/support needs
• Basic understanding of cardiac monitoring and emergency response (ACLS/BLS)
