Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and their families
• Monitor maternal and fetal status, interpret findings, and escalate concerns promptly
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and pediatric teams for coordinated care
• Support patients through labor with bedside coaching, pain management, and advocacy
• Perform timely documentation and handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies and participate in unit drills and quality initiatives

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license in Louisiana (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; NRP and ACLS preferred
• Clinical experience in Labor & Delivery preferred (new grads with strong L&D training are encouraged to apply)
• Comfort with fetal monitoring, labor support techniques, and maternal/newborn assessments
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shift blocks and maintain clinical competence in a fast-paced unit

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring interpretation and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM)
• Labor progression assessment and intrapartum care
• Postpartum and newborn assessment basics
• Medication administration and IV therapy
• Emergent obstetric response and hemorrhage management awareness
• Patient education, emotional support, and family-centered care
