Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using electronic fetal monitoring and respond to changes promptly
• Assist and support deliveries alongside obstetric providers and the care team
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives and interdisciplinary staff to coordinate safe, efficient care
• Educate patients and families about labor, delivery and postpartum care in an accessible, caring way
• Accurately document assessments, interventions and patient progress in the medical record
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Louisiana or ability to obtain state licensure
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, NRP) preferred or encouraged
• Clinical experience or strong interest in Labor & Delivery nursing
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and function effectively in urgent, fast-paced situations
• Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Strong assessment skills for maternal and newborn status
• Competence in IV therapy, medication administration and obstetric emergency response
• Effective patient education and family-centered care approach
• Good documentation practices and comfort with electronic medical records
• Collaboration and teamwork across multidisciplinary teams
