Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform first and second scrub roles in cardiovascular cases, handling instruments and supplies with precision
• Anticipate surgeon needs and prepare instrumentation for coronary artery bypass, valve replacements and robotic procedures
• Maintain and monitor the sterile field throughout operative procedures to ensure patient safety
• Assist the surgeon and surgical assistant with sponging, suctioning, cutting suture and holding retractors
• Operate and manipulate endoscopic/robotic camera systems during davinci-assisted thoracoscopy and robotic cases
• Serve as lead tech in specialty areas when required, coordinating the team and workflow in the OR
• Document care and case details using Meditech to ensure accurate patient records
• Support patient-centered care with vigilant intraoperative monitoring and communication

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT), or Associate Degree / Vocational School Graduate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required (must be obtained within 30 days of start)
• Minimum 2 years prior experience in a similar-size facility with comparable services
• Demonstrated competence as lead tech in Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, Burn and Vascular Surgery
• Comfortable working in a level 1 trauma hospital and adapting to high-acuity cases
• Ability to work M-F schedule and participate in night/weekend on-call rotations

Education

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT)
• Associate degree or vocational school graduate in surgical technology or related field

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong instrument handling and sterile technique skills
• Experience with cardiac surgery procedures: CABG, valve replacement and related CVOR cases
• Familiarity with davinci-assisted thoracoscopy and robotic surgery workflows
• Proficiency with Meditech documentation system
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and prioritize under pressure
• Comfort with a 1:1 patient ratio in an OR setting and level 1 trauma environment
• Skills in both first scrub (instrumentation) and second scrub (assistant tasks)
