Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform high-volume blood bank testing including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screen and identification
• Conduct AHG crossmatches, immediate spin crossmatches (IgG), electronic crossmatches and Direct/Indirect Coombs testing
• Manage transfusion procedures and reaction workups with accuracy and clinical urgency
• Process and accession specimens efficiently — expect 30–50 samples/day in a busy facility
• Operate and troubleshoot Epic Beaker, Wellsky and Immucor systems for testing and documentation
• Prepare, thaw and cool blood products safely and follow Rhogam screening protocols
• Maintain specimen integrity: collection, receipt, transport, labeling and proper storage
• Document and report test results in Epic promptly and adhere to quality assurance controls

Qualifications

• ASCP-BB certification required (hard stop)
• Minimum 2 years of recent blood bank experience (hard stop)
• Seasoned travel blood bank experience required — this is NOT an entry-level travel assignment
• EPIC (Epic Beaker) experience required — charting and documentation in Epic is mandatory
• Experience in a large acute care hospital (300+ beds) required — comfortable with high-volume Type/Screen and crossmatch
• Trauma Level I (and Level II) experience required; teaching hospital experience preferred
• Familiarity with Wellsky and Immucor instrumentation and automation
• Rotating weekends and holidays availability; RTO submissions required at application

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in blood bank and transfusion medicine practices
• Hands-on skills: accessioning, pipetting, specimen processing and handling
• Proficiency with Epic Beaker, Wellsky and Immucor Blood Bank software
• Competence in antibody typing (tube method), antigen typing and cold agglutinins testing
• Knowledge of specimen storage, hazardous materials/MSDS, proper disposal and labeling
• Strong quality assurance and control practices and transmission-based precautions
• Ability to perform cord blood evaluation, component modification and transfusion reaction workups
• Clear patient identification processes and accurate reporting of test results
