Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts including 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 3:00 AM, and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; schedule includes nights, every-other-week (EOW) rotations, and 4 weekend shifts per month; travelers must be flexible and may be placed on standby with a 30-minute response time

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency nursing care to both adult and pediatric patients in a busy, high-volume ER
• Perform triage and rapid assessment to prioritize care and improve patient outcomes
• Interpret EKGs and participate in STEMI and stroke workflows with speed and accuracy
• Manage ER holds and coordinate patient flow within the department
• Provide procedural sedation and one-to-one care during high-acuity interventions when required
• Collaborate closely with MDs, midlevels, RTs, and monitor techs using Cerner for accurate charting
• Float to the Pediatric ER as assigned and deliver pediatric-focused emergency care when needed
• Maintain required nursing ratios and follow safety protocols to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• Active RN license and eligibility to practice in California
• Minimum of 2 years of ER experience required (job details also list 3 years in some sections)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
• Significant pediatric ER experience expected for those assigned to Peds ER (not general med-surg only)
• Comfortable with high-volume triage and fast-track environments
• Travel experience preferred; no first-time travelers and duos not accepted

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
• BSN is not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong EKG interpretation skills and familiarity with STEMI and stroke protocols
• Experience charting in Cerner EMR
• Triage expertise and ability to prioritize in a high-acuity setting
• Comfort with respiratory support modalities including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
• Experience with Phillips telemetry and working with monitor techs
• Phlebotomy skills and familiarity with ER procedures and fast-track workflows
• Ability to perform procedural sedation and manage one-to-one sedation monitoring
