Roles & Responsibilities

• Process, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment to ensure patient safety
• Perform thorough cleaning and packaging of instruments following established sterile technique
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment such as Sterad, Steris 1, washer disinfection, and steam sterilizers
• Verify instrument integrity and documentation, ensuring accurate charting in Cerner when required
• Collaborate with OR staff to prioritize tray sets and turnaround for procedures
• Maintain a clean, organized sterile processing environment and adhere to infection control standards

Qualifications

• Certified through IAHCSMM or CBSPD (required)
• CSPDT verification and current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience
• Operating Room experience preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner or similar charting systems is a plus
• Ability to complete a 12-hour orientation and follow hospital submission/licensing requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of sterile processing technician program or equivalent preferred
• Certifications (IAHCSMM/CBSPD/CSPDT) required as noted

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in sterile processing, decontamination, and instrument sterilization
• Hands-on experience with Sterad, Steris 1, washer disinfection, and steam disinfection
• Strong packaging techniques and attention to detail for sterile sets
• Knowledge of infection control practices and sterile technique
• Comfortable with electronic charting systems (Cerner) and clinical documentation
• Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced OR/acute care setting
