Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients and document findings clearly
• Prepare children and families for surgery with compassionate education and emotional support
• Verify orders, administer medications per protocol, and ensure accurate medication reconciliation
• Start and manage IVs and necessary pre-op lines with attention to pediatric technique
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth patient flow
• Advocate for patient safety and maintain strict adherence to infection control and pre-op protocols
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards of pediatric care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington state
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Experience or strong interest in pediatric pre-operative nursing
• Willingness to complete orientation and participate in unit-based training

Education

• Nursing degree (ADN or BSN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and family-centered communication
• Pre-operative protocols, checklists, and surgical safety practices
• Medication administration and IV/line management skills
• Comfort working with children across age ranges and with anxious families
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and clear clinical documentation
• Teamwork, adaptability, and strong situational awareness in a perioperative setting
