Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and prepare pediatric patients for surgical procedures with kindness and accuracy
• Perform focused pre-operative assessments, including vitals and documentation
• Educate children and families about pre-op processes in clear, comforting language
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiology, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth handoffs
• Ensure adherence to infection control and perioperative safety protocols
• Document patient care thoroughly and communicate changes in condition promptly
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain best practices in pediatric pre-op care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential (Registered Nurse) — required
• Licensure valid for practice in Ohio (State: OH)
• Experience or training in pediatric nursing and/or pre-operative care preferred
• BLS certification recommended; facility may require additional perioperative credentials
• Strong communication skills with children and families and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment
• Willingness to attend orientation as part of onboarding

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Pre-operative assessment protocols and patient preparation
• Basic life support and pediatric emergency recognition
• Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
• Team collaboration within perioperative and surgical services
• Infection prevention and perioperative safety practices
