Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess pediatric patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit with vigilance and compassion
• Administer medications and manage pain control per protocol, ensuring safety at every step
• Provide airway support and post-operative nursing care during immediate recovery
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the broader care team to coordinate patient handoffs
• Educate families and caregivers about recovery expectations and discharge instructions in a clear, reassuring way
• Document care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record to maintain continuity and quality
• Participate in orientation and mentorship to uphold unit standards and help onboard new team members

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Missouri (MO) or appropriate compact license
• BLS required; PALS and other pediatric certifications highly recommended
• Clinical experience in PACU, preferably with pediatric patients
• Comfort with IV medication administration, monitoring, and post-anesthesia care
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to complete required background checks, health screenings, and immunizations

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred or equivalent nursing education

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care
• Post-anesthesia recovery protocols and airway management
• IV therapy and medication administration safety
• Pain assessment and multimodal pain management
• Family-centered communication and education
• Accurate EMR documentation and clinical handoffs
• Teamwork, situational awareness, and rapid troubleshooting
