Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients in the PACU
• Continuously assess and monitor vital signs and recovery status, intervening promptly when needed
• Administer medications and analgesia safely according to protocol and physician orders
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and families to ensure seamless transitions of care
• Document patient status and care in the electronic medical record accurately and timely
• Educate and support families about recovery, discharge criteria, and post-operative care
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain pediatric PACU competencies

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Ohio licensure required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Previous PACU or pediatric post-op experience preferred
• Comfort with IV medications, airway support basics, and pediatric patient assessment
• Ability to pass standard background checks and hospital onboarding requirements
• Willingness to participate in the provided orientation program

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) recommended

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong pediatric assessment and monitoring skills
• Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery and common pediatric post-op complications
• Medication administration and titration in a PACU setting
• IV therapy and basic airway management
• Clear, compassionate communication with children and families
• Accurate electronic medical record documentation
• Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced perioperative environment
