Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts: Day 06:30 AM - 07:00 PM and Night 06:30 PM - 07:00 AM (self-scheduling). Night assignment noted as Nights; every third weekend required (for nights Friday and Saturday are considered the weekend).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality Med-Surgical and Orthopedics nursing care to a diverse patient population
• Administer and monitor IV infusions and set-rate drips per orders and facility policy
• Perform hourly rounding and deliver bedside shift report to promote continuity of care
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in EPIC
• Collaborate with charge nurses, patient care techs, and interdisciplinary teams to maintain safe ratios
• Float to PCU and McDermott Behavioral Health as needed, demonstrating flexibility and clinical judgment
• Support patient and family education for post-op care, chronic disease management, and discharge planning
• Participate in unit orientation and competency validation, including an open-book skills exam during orientation

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid for practice in Iowa
• BLS certification required prior to start
• Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience (Med-Surg/Ortho experience strongly preferred)
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal; candidate must meet 50-mile radius rule
• Able to pass required orientation skills exam (90% required) and comply with facility policies (for example, no artificial nails)
• Willingness to float to PCU and Behavioral Health when requested
• Flexible, self-directed, and comfortable working with a varied patient population including mental health and addiction history

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Med-Surgical nursing and Orthopedics care principles
• IV infusion management and basic drip familiarity (heparin, IV antibiotics, antithrombotics, narcotics)
• Proficient use of EPIC for charting
• Effective bedside shift reporting and hourly rounding practices
• Comfort with 12-hour shift workflow and self-scheduling models
• Team communication and collaboration with charge nurses and patient care techs
• Basic telemetry awareness (monitor presence on unit) and patient assessment skills
