Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to stepdown patients, monitoring clinical status and intervening as needed
• Assess patients regularly and communicate changes to the interdisciplinary team
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following hospital protocols
• Respond to emergencies and rapid changes in patient condition with calm, skilled action
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other providers to coordinate patient care
• Maintain clear, timely documentation in patient records and complete required competency checklists
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to improve patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families about care plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license appropriate for practice (Kansas licensure expected)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• NIHSS and DCI/BVP certifications as listed in the posting
• Successful Nursys / License & Certificate Verification
• Completion of required Prime exams/screens (Basic Pharmacology, Rhythm Interpretation, Core Competencies, Skills Checklist, Specialty Exam)
• Successful completion of required health screenings and immunizations (COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, TB testing, Varicella, Tdap) and drug screening
• Prior experience in a stepdown or progressive care unit preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Stepdown unit care and monitoring of intermediate-acuity patients
• Basic pharmacology knowledge for safe medication administration
• Rhythm interpretation and cardiac monitoring competency
• Glucose management procedures and glucose training familiarity
• Core clinical competencies and hands-on skills relevant to progressive care
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently on night shift and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
