Roles & Responsibilities

Perform high-quality transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography studies accurately and efficiently
Conduct EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress testing as assigned
Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment to deliver optimal diagnostic information to cardiology providers
Ensure accurate scheduling, processing, and charging of all studies in the hospital information system
Apply infection control, aseptic techniques, and equipment disinfection protocols to protect patients and staff
Provide clinical guidance and preceptorship to students and new staff as part of educational agreements
Adapt testing and patient interactions to provide age-specific care from neonatal through adult populations

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or minimum 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography and extensive hospital-based experience, especially in pediatric and neonatal echocardiography

Education

High School Diploma or GED (required)
Certificate program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

Strong echocardiography skills including transthoracic 2D, M-Mode, color Doppler and transesophageal imaging
Experience with exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography
Competence with EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and charging studies
Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
Ability to teach and mentor students and staff; solid clinical preceptorship skills
