Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate critical care to pediatric patients in the PICU, monitoring and responding to changes in condition
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and accurately following established protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Use advanced monitoring and equipment (ventilators, invasive lines) and escalate care when needed
• Educate and support families through complex care journeys with clear communication and empathy
• Document patient care thoroughly in the electronic medical record and participate in handoffs to ensure continuity

Qualifications

• Current California RN license (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS and ACLS strongly preferred
• Prior PICU or pediatric critical care experience preferred
• Comfort with critical care equipment and interventions (ventilators, invasive monitoring)
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Able to pass facility orientation and competency requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of pediatric critical care principles and PICU workflows
• Proficiency with monitoring systems, ventilator management basics, and ICU medications
• Skilled in rapid assessment, prioritization, and delegation in high-acuity settings
• Ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team and communicate clearly with families
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate documentation practices
• Calm, composed decision-making under pressure with attention to detail
