Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care in the Neuro Stepdown (SDU) setting
• Closely monitor and assess patients' neurological status and respond to changes
• Administer medications, manage IV therapies, and follow advanced care plans
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate safe, efficient patient care
• Document patient progress and handoffs clearly and accurately
• Educate patients and families on care plans, recovery expectations, and discharge needs
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN licensure where applicable
• BLS certification required; ACLS and/or neuro-focused certifications preferred
• Prior experience in stepdown, progressive care, or neuro specialty is highly desirable
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro assessment and monitoring (NIH stroke scale familiarity a plus)
• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• IV therapy, medication administration, and infusion management
• Patient/family education and discharge planning
• Electronic medical record documentation and handoff processes
• Team collaboration and escalation when clinical status changes
