Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to Neuro Stepdown (SDU) patients
• Monitor and assess patients frequently, recognizing and escalating changes in neuro status
• Administer medications, therapies, and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, therapists, and support staff
• Document patient care thoroughly and communicate clearly during handoffs
• Educate patients and families about care plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or compact RN license valid for Louisiana
• Current BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred or obtained per unit requirement
• Previous experience in Neuro Stepdown, SDU, or progressive care environments is highly desirable
• Comfort with post-op neurological monitoring, telemetry, and advanced assessments
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in neuro assessments and recognition of subtle neurologic changes
• Familiarity with telemetry, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-operative care
• Proficient documentation skills and use of electronic health record systems
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-acuity patients safely
• Calm decision-making under pressure and clear communication with care teams
