Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, high-acuity care for adult Neuro ICU patients, including post-neurosurgery and traumatic brain injury cases
• Manage mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support (Ventilator, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP) with vigilance and precision
• Assess and manage invasive lines and neuromonitoring devices (EVD, ICP monitoring, arterial and central lines, PICC)
• Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips and maintain continuous IV sedation safely according to protocols
• Administer blood products and execute bedside procedures when needed (tracheostomy care, PEG management, line care)
• Recognize and respond to cardiac dysrhythmias; obtain and interpret 12-lead EKG/ECG and initiate emergency interventions
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, Pharmacy, Social Services, Rapid Response) to optimize patient recovery
• Practice infection prevention and isolation precautions consistently to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with strong Neuro ICU experience preferred (explicitly required: 2 years)
• Travel nursing experience required; first-time traveler screening will be performed
• Current relevant certifications preferred: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (certs marked as preferred in the posting)
• Demonstrated competence in IV therapy, central/arterial/PICC line management and phlebotomy
• Experience with ventilator management, EVD/ICP monitoring, and neurosurgical/post-craniotomy care
• Comfort titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips and administering procedural sedation while monitoring hemodynamics
• Willingness to float to other units within the OSU organization as needed
• Flu vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro Intensive Care and CVA/acute stroke management
• Mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning strategies
• External ventricular drain (EVD) and ICP monitoring
• Invasive lines: central, arterial, PICC line management and blood product administration
• Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips; continuous IV sedation
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; obtain 12-lead EKG/ECG
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions and PPE best practices
• Respiratory skills: HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, suctioning (ETT/NT)
• Phlebotomy and IV access initiation/maintenance
• Experience in teaching hospital and Trauma Level I settings preferred
