Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality labor and delivery nursing care in a high-risk, high-volume L&D unit
• Function as the Baby Nurse during deliveries and provide newborn stabilization and care until transfer to postpartum
• Circulate for C-sections and assist in surgical recovery when needed
• Perform neonatal resuscitation, APGAR scoring, cord sample collection and newborn assessments including Vitamin K administration and eye care
• Monitor and interpret electronic fetal monitoring and recognize/treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Administer and titrate IV therapies including insulin drips, magnesium sulfate and anticoagulation per unit protocols
• Float between postpartum/antepartum and sister facilities as unit needs require
• Document patient care accurately in EPIC and follow AWHONN guidelines for staffing and practice

Qualifications

• Active RN license (compact accepted) with NURSYS verification required
• Minimum 3 years of experience in high-acuity, high-pace Labor & Delivery (3-5 years required; 5+ years preferred for high-risk roles)
• Previous travel experience required (unit does not accept first-time travelers)
• Current BLS and NRP required; ACLS and AWHONN certifications preferred
• Must have current supervisory references and pass a clinical review (hard stop)
• Demonstrated ability to circulate for C-section and provide comprehensive newborn care (eyes, Vitamin K, thigh injections, assessments)
• Comfort working nights, every-other-weekend, and holidays as needed

Education

• Active RN license (compact license accepted)
• NURSYS verification required
• BLS and NRP required

Knowledge & Skills

• EPIC charting and electronic fetal monitoring (hard stop)
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn thermoregulation
• Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• C-section circulation and recovery
• IV therapy skills including starting/maintaining IVs and managing drips (insulin, magnesium sulfate, heparin)
• Postpartum care, couplet care, and management of postpartum hemorrhage
• Experience with high-risk antepartum diagnoses and triage
• Breastfeeding/lactation support and newborn hypoglycemia management
• Familiarity with epidural/general anesthesia environments and assisting with operative deliveries (forceps/vacuum)
• Strong teamwork, rapid response coordination, and interdisciplinary communication
