Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care to assigned patients using evidence-based practices
• Monitor fetal status using External Fetal Monitoring (EFM) and perform/interpret NSTs and dysrhythmia patterns to guide timely interventions
• Initiate and maintain IV therapy, draw venous blood, and manage infusion pumps and drips safely
• Administer medications and blood/blood products per protocol (including magnesium sulfate and oxytocin) and closely monitor responses
• Support labor management including triage, sterile vaginal exams, IUPC and spiral electrode placement when indicated
• Circulate and recover patients for cesarean sections and provide neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and NRP when needed
• Provide lactation support, postpartum care and education to patients and families
• Document accurately in Epic and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (RT, PT, pharmacy, rapid response, social work, etc.) to deliver excellent care

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Labor & Delivery (as stated)
• Proficiency with Epic charting system (required)
• Current BLS and NRP certifications (listed in job details)
• ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, and/or NCC C-EFM preferred (NCC C-EFM accepted in lieu of AWHONN Advanced as noted)
• Comfort with IV therapy, phlebotomy and maintaining central lines (CVC/PICC) — preferred
• Ability and willingness to float to other units within the OSU organization as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• External Fetal Monitoring (EFM) and NST interpretation
• Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Interpretation of cardiac dysrhythmias
• IV therapy, infusion pump/drip management and blood product administration
• Neonatal resuscitation skills and APGAR assessment
• C-section circulation and recovery skills
• Pain management including epidural anesthesia monitoring
• Postpartum hemorrhage management and high-risk antepartum care
