Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and periodontal hygiene care for infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients
• Perform periodontal examinations, coronal polishing, topical fluoride applications and periodontal pocket charting
• Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) and record vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature)
• Deliver patient education on oral hygiene, home care and nutrition to reduce oral disease
• Manage patient schedule to ensure smooth clinic flow and timely care
• Coordinate and conduct community prevention activities such as health fairs, sealant clinics and Head Start clinics
• Maintain hygienist supplies and sterilize instruments following infection control protocols
• Perform other assigned duties that support patient care and clinic operations

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Active Dental Hygiene license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Passed National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proper infection control techniques and instrument sterilization
• Knowledge of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Skillful use of dental instruments and dental radiography (X-rays)
• Strong oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and attention to detail
• Good manual dexterity and ability to sit over patients for extended periods
