Roles & Responsibilities
- Stabilize, triage, and provide high-quality emergency care to patients across the lifespan in a critical access ED
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned — lead the shift, coordinate staffing, and ensure smooth patient flow
- Perform rapid patient assessments and initiate appropriate interventions for trauma and emergent medical conditions
- Collaborate with ED providers and TeleEmergency/Telepsych/Teleneonatal resources to expand local capabilities
- Coordinate timely transfers with ambulance and air transport teams when higher-level care is required
- Document care thoroughly, maintain current certifications, and follow facility protocols for safe practice
- Mentor and support ED staff and techs to maintain a cohesive, competent emergency team
Qualifications
- Active RN license in New Hampshire (Compact license allowed)
- Minimum previous charge nurse experience required (posting: MUST HAVE PREVIOUS CHARGE EXPERIENCE)
- Active American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS (documents required at submission)
- Current TNCC certification (document required)
- Current emergency room skills checklist within the past year (required)
- One supervisory signed reference from the past year of employment (required)
- Complete licensure verification and include permanent address in submission
- Ability to work in a small critical access hospital environment and collaborate across ED and MedSurg
- Limit RTO (request time off) to 5 days while on assignment
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) — active RN license required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong emergency nursing and trauma stabilization skills
- Comfort with 12-hour shift workflows and high-acuity decision-making
- Experience with patient assessment, triage, and rapid intervention
- Familiarity with TeleEmergency, Telepsych, and Teleneonatal workflows
- Competence in supervising and directing ED staff during shifts
- Ability to coordinate transfers and work with ambulance and air transport services
- Effective communication with interdisciplinary teams and patients' families
