Roles & Responsibilities

• Care for, decontaminate, sterilize, and store surgical instruments and supplies with precision
• Handle processed goods and prepare items for safe redistribution across the medical center
• Follow strict infection control and aseptic techniques to protect patients and staff
• Assist Sterile Processing Specialists with team-lead duties, including maintaining competencies
• Complete documentation and skills checklists accurately to meet facility and regulatory standards
• Support efficient instrument flow to surgical and clinical teams so procedures run on time
• Participate in quality and safety initiatives that directly improve patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of recent Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) experience required
• HSPA certification required and must have been held for at least 2 years
• Active American Heart Association BLS certification (AHA) required
• COVID-19 vaccination required; declinations are not accepted
• Ability to provide required documentation: GBMC cover page (or accept facility-provided), resume, supervisory references from last 6 and 12 months, and a discipline-specific skills checklist

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven sterile processing techniques: instrument decontamination, sterilization, and handling
• Strong understanding of infection control principles and aseptic technique
• Familiarity with instrument tracking, storage, and redistribution workflows
• Attention to detail in documentation and completion of skills checklists
• Teamwork and the ability to support lead-level tasks when asked
• Comfort working in a fast-paced acute care setting and adapting to OR needs
