Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, skilled perioperative nursing care in pre-op and PACU areas, ensuring patient safety during transitions to and from surgery
• Assess patients preoperatively and post-anesthesia, monitor vital signs, manage pain and airway concerns, and intervene promptly when needed
• Administer medications and therapies per protocols and document accurately in the patient's chart
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the surgical team to coordinate seamless patient flow
• Perform and document required competency checks and specialty exams to maintain clinical readiness
• Educate patients and families about post-operative care and recovery expectations with clear, reassuring communication
• Maintain infection control and sterile technique standards to support excellent surgical outcomes
• Participate in team huddles and contribute to unit quality improvement efforts

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (must be valid for practice in California) — Nursys verification listed
• PACU and Pre-op nursing experience; demonstrated perioperative competency
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Successful completion of Prime screening/checklist exams and skills verification as part of onboarding
• Up-to-date immunizations and health clearances per employer policy (COVID-19, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Varicella, Tdap, TB testing/PPD/chest X-ray as applicable)
• Excellent clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fluid surgery schedule environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative assessment and PACU monitoring skills (airway, hemodynamics, pain management)
• IV medication administration and familiarity with post-anesthesia pharmacology
• Cardiac rhythm recognition and basic dysrhythmia interventions
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate charting
• Strong teamwork and handoff communication in a fast-paced surgical setting
• Ability to prioritize multiple post-op patients while maintaining safety and documentation standards
