Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused post-anesthesia nursing care in PACU to ensure safe recovery from anesthesia
• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments and prepare patients for surgery
• Monitor vital signs, manage pain, and intervene promptly to maintain patient stability
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative team members
• Document patient status, interventions, and handoffs clearly and accurately
• Support a smooth patient flow through the perioperative process and contribute to quality improvement

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential (Registered Nurse) — ability to practice in California preferred
• Experience in PACU and pre-op nursing or perioperative/surgery environment
• Required: DCI/BVP credential (as listed)
• Completion of Prime assessments: Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, Prime Specialty Exam
• Up-to-date personal health clearances: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Influenza, Tdap
• Required: TB test/PPD (or negative chest x-ray) and a minimum 10-panel drug screen
• Fit test completed per facility requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment and patient monitoring skills in the immediate post-anesthesia phase
• Knowledge of pre-operative preparation and perioperative safety practices
• Ability to recognize and respond to airway, hemodynamic, and pain-related issues
• Clear, compassionate patient and family communication
• Comfortable working within a surgical team and adapting to variable case schedules
• Accurate clinical documentation and handoff skills
