Roles & Responsibilities

Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders
Provide professional consultations to the interdisciplinary care team to support safe, timely discharges
Perform clinical swallowing evaluations and provide evidence-based swallowing therapy (including FEES when indicated)
Assess and treat cognitive-communication disorders and design individualized treatment plans
Operate and integrate augmentative communication devices and therapeutic equipment into care plans
Document clinical findings, progress, and discharge planning clearly and professionally
Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers and other therapists to optimize patient outcomes

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) required
Current BLS/CPR (HCP level) required
Completion of a FEES course required; if not completed upon hire, must be completed within six (6) months
Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of acute care SLP experience
Preferred: Prior FEES clinical experience and MBS ImP experience
Preferred experience with adult swallowing, augmentative communication equipment, VitalStim, electrolarynx, and endoscope

Knowledge & Skills

Patient assessment and diagnosis for speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
Swallowing evaluation and treatment, including FEES familiarity
Treatment planning and interdisciplinary collaboration
Use of augmentative and alternative communication devices
Experience with cognitive-communication assessment and therapy
Comfort operating therapeutic equipment used in acute care settings
