Roles & Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the internal risk management program to keep patients safe and the organization compliant
• Develop, evaluate, and refine patient safety initiatives as the Patient Safety Officer to reduce unintended adverse outcomes
• Lead and facilitate Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA) to identify system gaps and drive improvement
• Investigate, evaluate, document, and report adverse incidents in accordance with state and federal regulatory requirements
• Coordinate disclosure conversations and follow-up with patients, families, and clinical teams when incidents occur
• Analyze patient grievances and recommend corrective actions aligned with AK statutes
• Provide risk management and patient safety education to staff, management, and physicians to build safety-minded teams
• Support accreditation, chart audits, clinical reviews, and data-driven quality initiatives to strengthen compliance (DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF)
• Collaborate closely with Medical Directors, CMO, and corporate counsel on peer review and quality-of-care issues
• Serve as a mentor and resource, promoting cross-functional teamwork and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted, active Registered Nursing (RN) license in Alaska (agency staff must have active AK license; direct hire must have applied for AK license before start date)
• Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) required within two (2) years
• Clinical competency to be completed within 3 months and maintained every 3 years
• Minimum 3 years experience monitoring risk management, patient safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
• Demonstrated leadership in facilitating cross-functional teams and working collaboratively with clinical and administrative stakeholders
• Familiarity with regulatory standards (DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF) and state statutes governing risk management

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska
• CPHRM certification (to be obtained within two years)
• Clinical competency completed within 3 months and maintained every 3 years

• Risk management program implementation and oversight

• Regulatory reporting and compliance with AK statutes and federal requirements

• Ability to work with medical leadership and corporate counsel on complex quality matters
