Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit
• Closely monitor and assess patients transitioning from ICU-level care, intervening as needed
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create and update individualized care plans
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, educating them about care plans and progress
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses thoroughly in the health record
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to obtain/hold Louisiana RN licensure required)
• Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred or required per facility policy
• Clinical experience in a Step-Down Unit or progressive care setting preferred
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring, complex patient assessment, and rapid decision-making
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to unit scheduling needs
• Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations per facility requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills
• Proficiency with telemetry and monitoring of post-ICU patients
• Medication administration and IV therapy competence
• Effective verbal and written communication with patients, families, and clinical teams
• Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and accurate documentation practices
• Teamwork mindset and commitment to patient safety and quality care
