Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for step-down unit patients
• Assess, monitor, and document patient status, intervening promptly when changes occur
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to policies
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing (LA license preferred or compact RN eligible)
• BLS required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Previous experience in a step-down/SDU, telemetry, or acute care setting is highly valued
• Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; patient advocacy mindset
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to unit scheduling needs

Education

• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ADN/BSN); BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms and telemetry
• Skilled in IV medication administration and titration protocols
• Knowledge of common step-down unit diagnoses and post-procedural care
• Comfortable using electronic health record systems for documentation and orders
• Strong critical thinking and assessment skills with attention to detail
