Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients in the step-down (SDU) unit with attention to detail
• Provide skilled nursing care including medication administration and IV management
• Interpret cardiac monitoring and respond to changes in patient status
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams to create meaningful care plans
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the chart accurately
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge plans
• Respond to emergent situations calmly and effectively to promote patient safety
• Contribute to a positive unit culture by mentoring colleagues and supporting teamwork

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN authorization
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Experience in SDU, telemetry, progressive care, or similar acute care settings preferred
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical judgement skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• IV therapy and medication administration best practices
• Patient assessment and triage in a step-down setting
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate documentation
• Prioritization and time management in a fast-paced unit
• Empathy, patient education skills, and bedside manner
