Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for procedures through calm, thorough pre-op assessments
• Perform medication administration and verify orders prior to surgery
• Monitor and document vital signs and patient status before transfer to the OR
• Provide compassionate education and reassurance to children and their families
• Collaborate proactively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff
• Maintain strict infection control and sterile technique in pre-op areas
• Accurately document patient care in the chart and communicate handoffs clearly

Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) strongly preferred
• Previous pediatric nursing or pre-op experience preferred
• Comfort working with children and families in a fast-paced procedural setting
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility onboarding/orientation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of relevant pediatric nursing coursework or clinical experiences is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care techniques
• Pre-operative screening, preparation, and documentation
• Medication administration and verification processes
• IV access and basic pediatric vascular skills
• Infection prevention, sterile technique, and perioperative safety practices
• Effective family education and compassionate patient advocacy
• Teamwork, time management, and clear clinical communication
