Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
• Assess, monitor and document patient status and progress, adjusting care plans as needed
• Administer medications and advanced therapies safely and accurately
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—physicians, respiratory therapists and families—to deliver coordinated care
• Respond quickly and effectively in emergencies and support resuscitation efforts
• Educate and support families through complex care plans and discharge planning
• Participate in orientation and training to maintain high standards of care and safety

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license (California preferred or eligible for CA licensure)
• Pediatric experience and comfort working in an intensive care setting (PICU experience preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) highly recommended
• Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking and ability to prioritize in high-acuity situations
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient- and family-centered care
• Willingness to complete required orientation prior to assignment start

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• Ongoing professional development and required certifications expected

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric critical care principles and common PICU interventions
• Familiarity with monitors, ventilators and advanced hemodynamic support
• Proficiency in medication administration, IV therapy and titration of critical meds
• Skilled in documentation, care planning and using electronic medical records
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and lead during emergency situations
• Strong teamwork and family-centered communication skills
