Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality progressive care nursing for step-down and med-surg patients, including trach and ventilator care
• Perform and manage chest tube care, wound dressing changes, and cardiac drip management with precision
• Assess patients continuously, communicate changes promptly, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes
• Operate and monitor ventilators and stable vented patients safely and according to protocol
• Document care accurately in the EMR (Cerner) and uphold unit policies and standards
• Support a positive patient experience through compassionate education and family communication
• Participate in unit float coverage and help maintain safe staffing ratios during nights and weekends

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of nursing experience (PCU/step-down or med-surg experience preferred)
• Hands-on experience with trach care, ventilator management, and chest tubes
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Comfortable managing cardiac drips and stable vented patients
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR is preferred
• Flexible availability for nights and weekends and ability to float to other med-surg/PCU areas
• High level of clinical competence, strong critical thinking, and excellent teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; nursing diploma acceptable

Knowledge & Skills

• Trach care and ventilator support
• Chest tube management and wound care
• Cardiac drip titration and progressive care monitoring
• Lifts and safe patient handling
• ACLS/BLS-certified emergency response
• Experience using Cerner electronic medical records
• Strong assessment, communication, and clinical judgment skills
