Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care to birthing patients
• Perform continuous or intermittent fetal heart monitoring and interpret tracings to guide care
• Initiate neonatal resuscitation as needed following NRP standards to ensure newborn safety
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiology, and neonatal teams for seamless care
• Educate and support patients and families through labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in unit competency testing and checklists
• Respond rapidly to obstetric emergencies, employing BLS and advanced perinatal skills when required

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
• AWHONN training or fetal heart monitoring certification preferred/required per facility
• Successful completion of facility-required competencies and verifications (Trinity specialty testing, skills checklist)
• Ability to meet pre-employment health requirements (vaccinations, fit test, drug screen, vision screening)
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills in high-acuity situations

Education

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred where available; active RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in labor management and fetal heart monitoring interpretation
• Skilled in neonatal resuscitation and immediate newborn stabilization
• Knowledgeable about AWHONN guidelines and evidence-based perinatal practices
• Strong assessment skills for maternal and fetal status changes
• Comfortable with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Team-oriented approach with clear communication during handoffs and emergencies
