Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care and supervise CNA/Tech staff to ensure patient safety
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and triage for patients of all ages
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and consult leadership for complex situations
- Maintain accurate Electronic Medical Record documentation and transcribe physician orders
- Implement infection control procedures and uphold standards of care and hospital policies
- Develop and support patient care plans, participate in quality improvement, and attend meetings
- Evaluate emergencies calmly, initiate appropriate measures, and complete incident reporting
- Maintain supply and medication levels, report equipment needs, and support unit operations
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (agency staff must have active Alaska license; direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
- Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- TNCC preferred (required for Emergency Department nurses)
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs and to work independently in high-acuity situations
- Excellent communication, delegation, and supervisory skills
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma
- High school diploma or equivalent (as noted in position requirements)
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of nursing/medical practices, hospital and long-term care regulations
- Strong skills in patient assessment, triage, and emergency decision-making
- Proficiency with EMR documentation and nursing documentation best practices
- Infection control and isolation technique expertise
- Ability to supervise and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Capacity to handle emotionally stressful situations with professionalism and calm
