Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, and accession tissue specimens with care and precision
• Perform microtomy and produce high-quality sections for diagnostic review
• Execute routine and special stains (including H&E and other histochemical stains)
• Support immunohistochemistry workflows and assist with quality control
• Maintain accurate specimen and process documentation to support pathology workup
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness and calibration
• Communicate effectively with lab staff and pathologists to ensure timely case flow
• Follow laboratory safety, infection control, and regulatory procedures

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited histotechnology program or equivalent practical experience
• ASCP(HT) or equivalent certification preferred or ability to obtain certification
• Demonstrated competence in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
• Familiarity with immunohistochemistry techniques and lab QA/QC processes
• Strong attention to detail, good documentation habits, and teamwork skills
• Ability to work early start times (5:30 AM or 6:00 AM) for day shift assignments
• Valid state licensure if required by the assignment location

Education

• Completion of an accredited histotechnology program (preferred)
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy best practices
• Routine and special staining techniques (Hematoxylin & Eosin, special stains)
• Immunohistochemistry principles and troubleshooting
• Laboratory instrumentation operation and basic maintenance
• Quality assurance/quality control and accurate recordkeeping
• Lab safety, OSHA standards, and infection control procedures
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize caseloads
