Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process to ensure safety and therapeutic outcomes
• Develop, implement, and periodically update individualized interdisciplinary plans of care
• Perform thorough patient assessments and evaluate patient outcomes to guide treatment
• Coordinate with psychiatry, social work, and other disciplines to identify and connect patients with resources
• Deliver emergency psychiatric care for patients ages 5 and up, including crisis intervention and de-escalation
• Document patient care accurately and communicate changes in condition to the care team
• Support a therapeutic environment and contribute to quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Valid State of Maine RN license required
• Associate Degree in Nursing (2-year) required
• BLS certification required prior to start
• Current CPI (crisis prevention/intervention) training required prior to start
• At least 1 year of prior experience in mental health or psychiatric nursing required
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to manage stress, make sound decisions under pressure, and be flexible to meet coverage needs
• Note: Applicants who are previous employees of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will not be considered
• Note: Permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the hospital (per facility requirement)

Education

• 2-Year Associate Degree in Nursing (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in nursing process and patient assessment
• Experience in interdisciplinary care planning and care plan development
• Ability to evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care accordingly
• Crisis de-escalation and emergency psychiatric care techniques
• Strong communication, teamwork, stress management, flexibility, and decisive action under pressure
