Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care to patients across the lifespan
• Perform oral tissue examinations, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride applications
• Take and process dental radiographs (x-rays) and accurately record findings
• Measure and chart periodontal pockets and record vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature)
• Manage patient scheduling and maintain hygienist supplies and instrument sterilization
• Coordinate and lead dental prevention activities, including sealant clinics, health fairs, and Head Start clinics
• Deliver clear patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition to improve outcomes
• Contribute to a team-focused, patient-centered clinic and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to sit over patients for extended periods and maintain good manual dexterity

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proper infection control and sterilization techniques
• Principles of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Proper use of dental instruments and radiography
• Clinical hygiene best practices and periodontal measurement
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Accurate clinical judgment and patient education skills
• Dexterity and physical stamina to perform clinical tasks
