Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal) with precision and timeliness
• Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography to provide diagnostic data for cardiology teams
• Perform and interpret other cardiac diagnostic tests as assigned, including EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress tests
• Operate and maintain echocardiography, cardiac stress, electrocardiograph, and Holter monitoring equipment to ensure accurate results
• Accurately document scheduling, processing and charging in hospital information systems
• Apply infection control best practices, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection to protect patients and staff
• Precept and provide clinical guidance to students from affiliated colleges and universities
• Deliver age-specific care across neonatal, pediatric and adult populations with professionalism and compassion

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Certificate or degree in Cardiovascular Sonography
• Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, including pediatric and neonatal studies
• Strong equipment operation and computer documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively with physicians and nursing staff

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
• M-Mode and Color Doppler imaging
• Exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography
• EKG/ECG acquisition and interpretation
• Holter monitoring setup, monitoring and analysis
• Cardiac stress testing protocols and operation
• Echocardiography equipment operation and troubleshooting
• Infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection
• Patient-centered communication and age-specific care (neonatal, pediatric, adult)
• Precepting and clinical education skills
