Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative scrub support in the Cardiovascular OR, ensuring sterile technique and patient safety
• Prepare and maintain sterile instrumentation, supplies, and the CVOR environment for a variety of cases
• Scrub across all age populations from neonate to geriatric with attention to detail and individualized patient needs
• Work independently within established protocols and collaborate closely with RNs and surgical teams during procedures
• Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies efficiently to support smooth case flow
• Maintain patient confidentiality and exercise sound judgment, tact, and professionalism in high-stress situations
• Document perioperative activities accurately and demonstrate proficiency with computer/keyboarding tasks as required

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist, with Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) specialty experience required
• Certification by an approved body such as NBSTSA (CST) or NCCT (TS-C) preferred or required as noted
• Current BCLS certification
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)

Knowledge & Skills

• Competence in perioperative and scrub responsibilities across diverse patient ages
• Strong sterile technique and adherence to infection control practices
• Ability to function independently within established CVOR protocols
• Sound clinical judgment, tact, diplomacy, and respect for patient confidentiality
• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills for documentation and electronic charting
