Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography with accuracy and clinical judgment
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic testing as assigned: EKGs, Holter preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment such as echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors to produce high-quality diagnostic data
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and correct charging of studies to ensure accurate documentation and billing
• Implement infection control practices, aseptic technique and proper equipment disinfection to maintain patient and staff safety
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, with particular attention to neonatal and pediatric patients
• Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nurses and other hospital staff and provide preceptorship and clinical guidance to students as required
• Perform additional duties within the scope of the role to support the cardiac diagnostics team and patient care

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or minimum of two years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Comfortable teaching/precepting students and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Cardiovascular Sonography certificate (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong skills in transthoracic (2-D), M-Mode and color-flow Doppler imaging
• Experience with transesophageal and stress (exercise and pharmacologic) echocardiography
• Proficient in EKG acquisition, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Competent operating echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors
• Ability to perform computer-based analysis of cardiac studies and ensure accurate scheduling/charging in hospital systems
• Knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection procedures
• Comfort working with patients of all ages and applying age-specific care guidelines
