Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative care for cardiovascular surgery patients in the CVOR
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and ensure all instrumentation is ready for procedures
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists and the surgical team to support safe, efficient operations
• Perform preoperative and postoperative assessments and document patient care thoroughly
• Monitor hemodynamics and respond to changes in patient status during cardiovascular procedures
• Educate patients and families about perioperative expectations and recovery plans
• Participate in unit huddles and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license (TX or multistate compact) required
• Minimum 1 year of CVOR or cardiovascular surgery experience as noted in the job posting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Familiarity with cardiovascular surgical instrumentation and sterile technique
• Strong critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and adapt to perioperative workflow

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, hemodynamic monitoring and surgical procedures
• Proficiency with sterile technique, OR protocols and surgical instrumentation
• Ability to interpret EKG tracings and understand perioperative monitoring
• Clear documentation and charting skills in electronic medical records
• Strong situational awareness and the ability to act quickly under pressure
