Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based oncology nursing care to adult patients on the K9A Oncology/Women’s Surgical unit
• Administer and monitor treatments and medications safely, following unit protocols and chemotherapy guidelines (chemo certification preferred)
• Document all patient care accurately and timely in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, CNAs and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient-centered care
• Educate patients and families about treatments, side-effect management and discharge planning
• Maintain appropriate patient ratios (typically 1:4 or 1:5) while prioritizing safety and quality outcomes
• Participate in unit policies, quality improvement initiatives and occasional floating to other med-surg areas

Qualifications

• Active RN license (appropriate for practice in North Carolina required upon hire)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (oncology experience preferred)
• BLS certification required
• Chemo certification preferred (candidates with this will be considered first)
• Comfort with Cerner EMR and standard unit equipment
• Team-player attitude and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Oncology nursing principles and chemo/infusion familiarity
• Proficiency documenting and navigating Cerner EMR
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to manage patient ratios of 1:4 or 1:5 with safe prioritization
• Clear communication and patient/family education skills
• Familiarity with common med-surg procedures (e.g., thoracentesis monitoring, basic pelvic exam support)
