Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic nursing care for long-term care residents using strong assessment and clinical judgment
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and document thoroughly in the Electronic Health Record
- Lead and supervise CNAs, LPNs, and other unit staff during your shift, ensuring high-quality care and proper delegation
- Develop, implement, and revise individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
- Provide patient and family education, counseling, and discharge planning to promote successful transitions
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations and escalate to management when necessary
- Complete admission assessments, progress notes, and required documentation to maintain continuity of care
- Participate in staff meetings, orientation, in-services, and competency assessments to support unit excellence
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license (Alaska) or applied for Alaska license prior to start date for direct hires; agency staff must have an active Alaska license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred, ideally in long-term care or related settings
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform required physical duties of the role
Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing: BSN, ADN/Associate degree, or Diploma in Nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across the lifespan
- Medication administration and knowledge of pharmaceuticals, side effects, and interactions
- Infection control practices and safe use of clinical equipment (AED familiarity)
- Proficient documentation in Electronic Health Records and accurate transcription of physician orders
- Strong oral and written communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Leadership, delegation, staff orientation, and conflict de-escalation techniques
