Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate venipuncture and capillary collections while ensuring patient comfort and safety
• Properly label, handle, and transport specimens following chain-of-custody and lab protocols
• Document collections and results in Cerner promptly and accurately
• Maintain a clean, safe workspace and follow infection control best practices
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and multidisciplinary care teams
• Assist with specimen processing and ensure timely delivery to the lab to support clinical decision-making
• Respond appropriately in urgent situations and support basic life-saving measures until advanced help arrives

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of phlebotomy experience (explicit requirement)
• Current BLS certification (required)
• Proven experience using Cerner or other electronic health record systems
• Phlebotomy certification or completion of an accredited phlebotomy program (preferred)
• Ability to submit appropriate license/certification documentation (License to Submit: Yes)
• Comfort working night shift in an acute care setting and completing a 12-hour orientation

Education

• High school diploma or GED; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program or equivalent training preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in venipuncture techniques and specimen collection
• Familiarity with specimen labeling, handling, and transport best practices
• Comfortable charting and navigating Cerner EHR
• Strong infection control, safety, and HIPAA awareness
• Excellent patient identification and communication skills
• Attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting
