Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead and maintain the SEARHC Infection Prevention & Control Program — write, update, and implement policies that meet CDC, CMS, OSHA, FDA and TJC expectations
• Conduct surveillance, collect and analyze HAI data, and prepare timely reports to NHSN and other regulatory agencies
• Translate surveillance findings into actionable interventions and quality improvement initiatives
• Design and deliver infection prevention education and training for staff, patients, families, and communities
• Serve as IPC committee chair and collaborate across clinical, administrative, and public health partners
• Oversee the Employee Health program and ensure competency assessments and manager competencies are completed on schedule
• Provide on-site assessments, coaching, and support across SEARHC locations — travel by jet, small plane, and ferry as required
• Support leadership by integrating infection control principles into strategic and operational plans

Qualifications

• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license)
• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or similar) required
• Master's degree (MPH, MSN) preferred
• Certification in Infection Control and Prevention (CIC) required
• BLS certification current (within 3 months of hire) and maintained biannually
• Minimum 3 years of acute care and/or infection control experience and/or data collection and performance improvement/risk management experience
• Clinical Competency and Manager Competency to be demonstrated within 3 months of hire and periodically thereafter

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field required
• Master's degree (MPH, MSN) preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent (noted as baseline) — clinical education and licensure take priority

Knowledge & Skills

• Practical knowledge of epidemiology, infectious disease principles, and HAI surveillance
• Experience with NHSN and CMS reporting requirements
• Comfort with data collection, analysis, trending, and basic statistics
• Proficiency with MS Office and database applications
• Familiarity with project management and performance improvement methodologies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including health-literate messaging for diverse audiences
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into policy, practice, and staff education
